The Farmers’ Almanac predicts a winter storm will hit the Northeast around the time the Superbowl is played at the MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands in New Jersey. The 197-year-old publication hits newsstands today, and is also predicting a colder-than-normal winter for two-thirds of the country and heavy snowfall in the Midwest, Great Lakes and New England. The Almanac bases its predictions on planetary positions, sunspots and lunar cycles, a celestial formula unchanged since the almanacs debut in 1818. ¬†Superbowl XLVIII is being hosted by New York and New Jersey. It is the first Superbowl to be played outdoors in a cold environment, and if these predictions are correct, it will be the last.
