The Ajile L Turner Scholarship Foundation‘s annual Farewell Summer event returns Thursday, September 12th at Galapagos Art Space in DUMBO Brooklyn. The annual end-of-summer tradition will feature a performance from Common, Yahzarah, and afro-soul/pop newcomer Amma Whatt.
The Ajile L. Turner Scholarship Foundation was established in 2009 in memory of COMMON’s beloved cousin and road manager who tragically lost his life in a Fort Greene motorcycle accident. In conjunction with the Common Ground Foundation, The Ajile L. Turner Scholarship Foundation’s stated purpose is to continue Mr. Turner’s passions for the arts and entrepreneurship through scholarships, in-school educational programs and mentorship for children residing in Brooklyn, New York and Cincinnati, Ohio.
I attended last year and I had a marvelous time. Galapagos Art Space is an intimate setting and an awesome performance venue. The event always features gifted new artists, and it was nice to see Common perform with a live band and vocals. Of course, in addition to the good time, the proceeds go to a great cause.
I can’t make it this year because I have an appointment with a group of aspiring dancers (smile) but I encourage my friends to bring their friends and say farewell to summer properly.
